Red Data Book of the Flowering Plants of Cameroon: IUCN global assessments. 2011. Many dot maps. 578 p. gr8vo. Paper bd.
The first red dta book for a tropical African country. 815 flowering plants species, from grasses to tall forest trees, are assessed as being globally threatened with extinction (Red Data species), most for the first time, using the IUCN 2001 standard. This is nearly a ten - fold increase on the 82 threatened flowering plant species documented for Cameroon in 1998. Each species in this book isdescribed so that they can be identified, and for each, management suggestions are given, so that their chances to survive are improved. The species are also individually and collectively mapped, so that, in future, those coordinating development projects in Cameroon can better avoid known sites for threatened species when planning the footprint of these projects. Hotspots for threatened species are mapped on the rear cover. Included in the book is a special section on orchids by Benedict John Pollard.
