Release of Genetically Engineered and other Microorganisms.1992.Illustr. 194 p.gr8vo.
The release of genetically engineered microorganisms (GEMs) into theenvironment is possibly the single most controversial aspect of appliedbiology. Areas of research directly relevant to the use of GEMs in theenvironment are fully discussed and some aspects of the use of speciallyselected un-engineered bacteria and fungi are covered. A series ofchapters then deal with points important to the release of all types ofbacteria, especially aspects of gene transfer and survival. The finalchapters discuss specific case-histories of some of the known realeasesof GEMs. The book concludes with the likely concerns and reactions oflegislature of various countries to the issues raised by this branchof biotechnology.
