ABSTRACT: This work is a taxonomic revision of the twelve currently-
recognized American species ofthe euphorbiaceous generaAnomalocalyx
Ducke, Dodecastigma Ducke, Pausandra Radik., Pogonophora Miers ex
Benth, and Sagotia Baili., allofwhich have theirdistnbution centered in the Amazon Basin. Each taxon is described, discussed and figured, and the geographical distribution of each is given, as are dicotomous keys to the genera and species. Data are presented on taxonomic synonomy, economic importance, geographic ranges, habitat types, phenological aspects, popular names and uses, and systematic positions and afinities of the genera. The morphology of poilen grains ofPogonophora was found to diverge radically from that of the other genera treated here. This aspect, taken together withother morphological characters, supports the current tribal classification of the genus which is placed in the monogeneric tnbe Pogonophoreae. Dodecastigma integrfolium (Lanj.) Lanj. & Sandw. is reported for the first time from Brazil, found in the states os Pará, Maranhão and Mato Grosso. Pausandra Radik., is reduced from nine to six species with the placement of P. densijlora Lanj. and P. sericea Lanj. as synonyms of P. trianae, while P. macrostachya and P. megalophylla are considered to be ofdoubtful status. Sagotia racemosa var. genuina, S. racemosa var. ligularis and S. racemosa var. microsepala were synonomized as S. racemosa Baill., while S. racemosa var. macrocarpa was maintained as being of dubious status. S. racemosa var. brachysepala Mueil. was raised to the level a species as S. brachysepala.
