Seed Images of China National Herbarium (PE). Volume 1. 2021. illus. 436 p. gr8vo. Hardcover.
The "Seed Atlas of the National Herbarium" contains two volumes, the first volume contains 8083 species (including subspecies and variants) of plant seed specimens, and the remaining collections will be included in the second volume.
For the seeds of each plant a suitable color photo is given for presentation. The seed photos are taken with a digital stereo microscope. Each image in the book is annotated with Chinese name, Latin literature name, family name, genus name, and seed pecimen barcode number and scale. The Latin names are based on the information provided by the source of the corresponding seed specimens; for the same species and synonymous names, the accepted scientific names corresponding to the TPL are used, and the Chinese names are based on "Chinese Flora" and the Chinese Plant Image Library as the main reference materials. Regarding the arrangement of plant families and genera, this book follows the following classification system: gymnosperms are arranged according to the Christenhusz gymnosperm classification system, and angiosperms are arranged according to the APGIV system; each species in the genus is arranged in the order of the scientific name in the Latin alphabet. This book quotes the article "The Research Methods and Terminology of Chinese Plant Seed Morphology" (Liu Changjiang et al., 2014). The paper summarizes the meaning of seed morphology, identification research, description content and methods, etc., for readers' reference. At the end of the book, there is an index of names of families, genera, and species (including subspecies and varieties) in Chinese and Latin. It also lists the APG IV and the family and genera change comparisons of various commonly used classification systems, as well as the synonym comparisons used in recent years.
