A floristic treatment for the Orobanchaceae occurring within the region
covered by the Fiore d'Afrique centrale (Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda and Burundi) is given. A total of 14 genera and 97 species comprising 106 taxa (incl. subspecies or varieties) have been recorded: 95 species (comprising 103 taxa) are found in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, 32 species (comprising 34 taxa) in Rwanda and 35 species (comprising 39 taxa) in Burundi. A total of 24 taxa is strictly endemic to the Flora region. Two new combinations are proposed. Six lectotypifications are made. All genera and species come with a morphological description, synonyms, distributional data, information on habitat and conservation, vernacular names, as well as additional bibliography, taxonomic notes and the citation of representative specimens. Identification keys to the genera and species of Central African Orobanchaceae are provided and a total of 61 drawings and 34 photo plates with a total of 152 photos assist the process of identification. In addition, an overview of all families of the order Lamiales occuring in the Flore d'Afrique centrale region, including an identification key, is provided.
