The book is grouped into six sections. The first introductory section emphasises the status of forestry in India. The next five sections are concerned with forest and people, forest and industries, forestry and production, forestry research and education and conclusions. Each section provides general perspectives for the papers and highlights their main points on problems of forest degradation and need for research and development for greening the country. The final section consists of a concluding statement about the workshop in Hisar, India (Dec. 1989). It is hoped that the forest policies, appended in the text,will provide an insight to the reader about the changing scenario of the Indian forestry.
