Taxonomy of Begonias. 2019. 47 col. pls- X, 468 p. - In English.
The book summarizes the taxonomic system of Begonia L. in Begoniaceae and suggests an updated integrated system for the genus based on molecular evidence together with morphology, geography, and ecology. Up to 2018, 1925 species of 14 subgenera and 48 sections of the genus have been recognized. In the genus, subgenera are emphasized and accompanied by taxonomic revision and selected illustrations of morphology and niches including more than 120 taxa photos. In the book, all supraspecific taxa are treated as monophyletic groups. Extensive molecular work needs to be carried on in the future to revise the above system.
An updated integrated taxonomical system is suggested for the genus Begonia. Under this system, 14 subgenera and 48 sections have been recognized with complete taxonomici revision, citation, and discussion. By the end of 2018 and excluding infra-specific taxa, 1925 species have been recognized and discussed in the system. Among them, 110 samples and 101 species of Begonia have been selected and sequenced via the whole cp-DNA to produce a phylogenetic backbone of Begonia L. to support the new system.
