A portefolio of rare and precious botanical illustrations. Painted inHolland in the late sixteenth century by an unknown hand or hands, thesemagnificent images were collected by the pharmacist Theodorus Clutius,to be used as reference works for both artists and doctors. They havenever before been published in this format or extent. The author selected 142 watercolours from some 1,800 pictures. The accompanyingessay sets the watercolors in the context of both the art and scienceof the period.
