This book is devoted to the pathology of conifers affected byfluorine - regarded as the most aggressive pollutant in air emissionsworldwide. Over the past years a wealth of information hasaccumulated about the effects of air pollution on trees in Westerncountries. Here the results and their interpretation of a 15 year studyon coniferous forests (taiga) in Eastern Siberia are presented and canbe compared with similar studies in the West. Special focus is on thefollowing aspects: phytotoxic features of fluorine compounds, itstransportation from the source of emission, formation of polluted zones,admission, localization and movement of fluorine in the plant,metabolism of the damaged tree and maximum permissible fluorineconcentrations for conifers.
