MATTHEW, K.M.
The Exotic Flora of Kodaikanal. 1969. (Bot. Surv. India, Rec. Vol. XX:1). 241 p. 4to. Paper bd.
Kodaikanal on the Palni Hills in the district of Madurai in the State of Madras (South India) is situated at an altitude of about 2200 meters. The term "exotic" in the title of the book is defined as "plants not indigenous to India".
These plants have largely been neglected in other floras of the area (Gamble's Flora of Madras, etc.), so that this book fills a gap. The arrangement follows Bentham & Hooker's Genera Plantarum. Only plants personally collected by the author are listed. Keys, ethymology, common names (so far as existing), detailed descriptions, leaf-shedding, flowering and fruiting season, distribution, more noteworthy uses, etc. are given.
