The Families of Flowering Plants. Inter- active Identification and Information Retrieval. 1994.
This CD-ROM applies INTKEY (an interactive program for identifyingbiological specimens) to 560 descriptions of the Angiosperm families.Published examples and the notes provided here illustrate the kinds ofquestions you can pursue using INTKEY, as well as applictions of themost commonly used commands. The program is designed to detect taxonomicpatterns in botanical data, and to select taxomically balanced samples for experimental work. Identifications of Angiosperm familiesare based on world-level morphological descriptions, usually augmentedby at least one illustration. To further assist with identification, the program allows users to isolate regional subsets of families (e.g.for Australia, North and South America, Eurasia, tropical Africa andMalaysia). The CD-ROM contains 565 high quality line drawings andsamples of coloured and black-and-white photographs. Also included area complete set of natural language descriptions, source references anddetails of other INTKEY packages available. Hardware requirements:At least 640 kb of memory. The program runs on a MS-DOS machine andrequires only 1 Mb of hard disk space, a CD-ROM drive, a Tseng Labs orVESA Super VGA card and a colour monitor for best results.
