The gynostemium of the neottioid orchids.1982. (Opera Botanica, 65) 77 figs.96 p.4to. Paper bd.
The characters connected with the orchidaceous gynostemium are stated and the morphological terminology is reviewed. Observations are made of 62 genera of neottioid orchids, including morphological, anatomical and developmental studies. A new gynostemium structure functioning as pollinium stalk, the hamulus, is described and shown to occur in several genera of neottioid orchids. A stipes similar to the one known from vandoid orchids, here termed a tegula, is demonstrated in Zeuxine and Hetaeria. The contribution of the observation to a phylogenetic model of the monandrous orchids is analyzed by cladistic means. Comments on the principal orchid systems are given and the taxonomic implications of the results are discussed in relation to different taxonomic principles. No new taxa are proposed. - Second hand copy.
