Donovan Stewart Correll has been interested in the wild relativesof the common cultivated potato since his first field explorationfor these plants in Mexico, in 1947, for the United States Departmentof Agriculture. Since then a large part of his research activity hasbeen devoted to the study of these plants. He has botanized extensivelyfrom Colorado to southern Chile in search of botanical specimens andliving material of wild potatoes that are found only in the WesternHemisphere. In addition to his field explorations, he has examinedspecimens in seventy-three herbaria.
