This publication had much influence on pharmacology towards the end of medieval times. It presents a compendium, checked and organized,of medical and pharmaceutical knowledge of classical and medieval times,based on the uses of medicinal plants, 150 of them illustrated and described in this volume.The definition 'Herbarum' was used in medieval times for books dealing with plants and their medicinal attributes only.Villanova's book represents the second 'Herbarum' published in Italy at all. Experts call this herbal a jewell of 'farmacopea - medica.'
