This paper gives an SEM account of the diatom genus PlagiotropisPfitzer and establishes eight new genera for species removed fromTropidoneis sensu Cleve. Ten new species are described. The affinitiesof the genera are briefly discussed with some reference to thePleurosigmoid diatoms for which additional illustrations are provided.
