The project of the Flora of the Czech Republic was initiated in 1975; it was aimed at a modern, monographic treatment of all species of our flora, the most detailed work in the Czech botanical literature. The Flora was originally designed to be published in eight volumes but, with increasing levels of the exploration of the flora and knowledge of individual species in the Czech Republic and worldwide, it expanded to nine volumes. The whole of the nine volumes is published on 5 810 pages and covers 188 families, 952 genera and 3,349 species with a full treatment (and a number of additional species mentioned in brief notes). Most species are illustrated with original drawings on 1,062 plates. It should be emphasized that 79 authors contributed to the Flora. The last, concluding volume of the Flora includes 397 species (and a number of species mentioned in notes) of 91 genera and seven families, each with a detailed taxonomic and chorological treatment, and further data on their karyology, ecology and phytosociology. The text is supplemented with 120 full-page plates, not only with figures of general habits but also with numerous drawings of diagnostic details. The ninth volume has 33 contributors affiliated to almost all the important botanical institutions in the Czech Republic. Main families treated in volume 9 are the Poaceae and Cyperaceae. - This is the final volume of the 'flora'.
