Vrikshayurveda is a part of Ayurveda, exclusively meant for maintaining the health, healing and productivity of plants. Scattered information on Vrikshayurveda is available in Vedas, Upanishads, Puranas, Epic literature, Samhitas (Treatise), Buddhist literature, Kautilya's Arthasastra, Krishiparasara, Nighandus (Lexicographic works), and other Ayurvedic literature. Later, these informations were compiled and translated by many authors like Surapala, Sarnghadara, Bhavarnishra, Nalini Sadhale, Y.L. Nene, etc. - In this book, the authors mainly focus on the historical perspective of Vrikshayurveda, ex-situ plant conservation packages and practices, methods of plant propagation, plant health care, nutritional care and management, arboreal medicines, biological control and treatments, ancient plant biotechnological interventions, etc. The authors further highlight the enormous scope of developing a number of new programmes, projects based on Vrikshayurveda including new protocosl for awareness/conservation practice of trees, especially popularisation of planting carbon sequestration potential tree species and construction of ponds nearby, scientific validation of micro nutrients, bio manures, liquid bio manures (Kunapajala), immune enhancers, stamina boosters, growth promoters, growth regulators, flower/ fruit inducers. fumigators, medicinal products for the treatment of plant diseases, soil enriched with nutrients and micro nutrients, production of aromatic soil, production of new/novel branded (single or poly herbal formulations) products, development of diverse pro biotic products, products which enhance flowering, fruiting, colour, quality improvement, various R&D activities, etc. based on the knowledge documented in Vrikshayurveda. This book consists of 23 chapters including the list of plants and animal products used in Vrikshayurveda for the production of various single/ poly herbal formulations which possess preventive, promotional, corrective and curative properties.
