This book is a combination of botanical illustration and generalsummaries of family characteristics. It evolved from a Master's thesis,Common Florida Angiosperm Families (1980; 26 families), which wasincreased to 34 families in the published version, Common FloridaAngiosperm Families, Part 1 (1083). Thirty-six additional familiescomprised Part 2 (1986). The popularity of the series has inspired thisrevised and updated edition combining parts 1 and 2 as a single volumenow containing 73 families and 81 original plates. The original intentof this project was to help fill the need for botanical books dealingexclusively with Florida. Since its conception, several excellent workshave been published - most notably the floras of Wunderlin (1982) andClewell (1985), as well as the popular wildflower book by Bell andTaylor (1982).
