In the FIRST edition of this book, the whole genus Phragmipedium, slipper orchids from South- and Central America, was shown in one book together with most of the hybrids the very first time.

Now, in the SECOND edition, all newly described species of the genera Phragmipedium and Selenipedium are included, the hybrid lists were actualized, and many new pictures were added.

The author is a specialist for the genera Paphiopedilum, Phragmipedium and Phalenopsis and has published many articles about these genera in different journals all over the world. He recently also described new species, like Phragmipedium dalessandroi, Phrag. richteri, Phrag. christainsenianum, Phrag. tetzlaffianum, Phrag. brasiliense and also the natural hybrids Phrag.×merinoi. Phrag. ×pfitzerianum and Phrag.×roethianum.

The book provides data on the history, information about the habitat, climate, detailed descriptions, variability and the primary hybrids together with many pictures from the species in their habitat, detailed pictures of the plants, flowers, and flower details. The author illustrates the variability of the species with a large number of pictures and shows how attractive these species are. After the chapters about the 29 species and 6 natural hybrids, the author writes about the history of hybridization, with many examples and excellent pictures.

In the last part of the book, the genera Selenipedium with 10 species and Mexipedium with one species are also described and richly illustrated.
