The present publication deals with some aspects of the diatom flora ofNew Caledonia. The essential aim was, to find MAILLARDs new taxa in theoriginal slides and to prove them by photomicrographs. After a criticalvaluation they have been validated, if feasible, according to the rulesof the International Code of Botanical Nomenclature. This was necessary,since all his descriptions are formally invalid. The results of the revision can be summarized briefly by the following numbers: Taxa total:296; new taxa:98 (probably 15 additional new taxa - furtherinvestigations are necessary (G.Moser)
