This is the first of six volumes describing the flora of the ArabianPeninsula and the Socotran archipelago. Examining all native floweringplants and ferns as well as major cultivated and amenity plants, theflora covers Saudi Arabia, Yemen, The Sultanate of Oman, United ArabEmirates, Qatar, Bahrain and Kuwait. Volume one consists of an extensiveintroduction to the area, including sections on topology and geology,climate, vegetation, floristics, phytogeography, and conservation, andbegins the systematic study of the flora. Each species is separatelymapped with notes on ecology and distribution;illustrations and keys aididentification. With descriptions of around 700 species in each volume,this will become an essential reference source on Arabian flora.
