Norway including Svalbard has the most species-rich peat moss (Sphagnum) flora in Europe, and this book is the first to describe this diversity of species. The book circumscribes 55 species/subpecies found in Norway, as well as the three remainder European species so far unrecorded from the country, and also three extra-European species. The flora part of the book includes illustrated macroscopic keys, morphological descriptions and characterizations, bioclimatic and habitat preferences, distribution maps as well as colour illustrations of the included taxa. The book also embraces a general part with chapters dealing with various aspects of peat mosses, like taxonomy, classification, biology, reproduction, dispersal, properties, ecology, associated organsims, habitat classifications, uses etc.
