Atlas of the Estonian Flora 2020 / Eesti Taimede Levikuatlas 2020. Publ. 2021. 1664 col. distr. maps. 634 p. Hardcover.
The latest and most comprehensive overview of Estonian flora.
The new plant atlas summarizes most of the information about Estonian flora collected in the last two centuries. The maps of the 1664 atlas reflect the distribution of Estonian natural plants, as well as a large number of naturalized, cultivated and alien species, subspecies or hybrids.
Plant distribution has been described using a 6 '× 10' (9 × 11 km) grid, which is also used in many European countries. The distribution maps distinguish between modern and historical finds of the species from four periods: 2006-2020, 1971-2005, 1921-1970 and up to 1920.
Distribution maps are accompanied by information on species abundance trends, general distribution, area boundaries, threats and conservation status. The text part of the Atlas provides information on the frequency of the species in Estonia and, for many alien species, for example, the place, time and name of the first and last find.
The fieldwork of the new plant distribution atlas lasted in 2014-2020 on the initiative of the Botanists of the Society for the Protection of Heritage Communities, based on the joint contribution of Estonian plant enthusiasts and plant scientists. More than 1,900 plant enthusiasts and scientists have contributed at least one observation or herbarium specimen to the data of the last period of the Atlas (2006-2020). In total, the atlas is based on more than 2,100,000 observations, specimens and literature-based plant finds.
