This volume consists of 18 papers, each presented either as part ofone of two symposia or as a poster at the XVIth International BotanicalCongress in St. Louis, Missouri in August 1999. One symposium addressedthe taxonomy of the Papilionoideae. The second symposium focussed onrelationships in Caesalpinioideae and Mimosoideae. The primaryobjecticves of the two symposia were to examine phylogeneticrelationships in each of the three subfamilies, by criticallyevaluating and analysing diverse sources of characters.
