This book is a collection of photographs of Rubus specimens collected by French missionary Faurie, who came to Japan in the early Meiji period.

Faurie came to Japan in 1873 and collected plants while preaching Christianity for about 40 years until his death in Taiwan in 1915. He has visited many places including Japan, Karafuto, Chishima, Korea, Taiwan and Hawaii. He collected 62,440 specimens, numerous duplicate specimens, and sent them to foreign researchers and major herbariums. Therefore, he made a great contribution to the elucidation of the early flora of Japan.

This book only deals with the genus Rubus of the family Rosaceae. Photographs of all Rubus specimens collected by him (pages 26-356), specimen archives containing the specimens, and whether or not they are type specimens are also described on each photograph page.
