Dzukou valley is situated at the border of the Indian states of Manipur and Nagaland at an altitude of 2438 m, behind the Japi ranges. The valley and surrounding hills stretch across the two states bounded by Manipur in the south and Nagaland in the north. In recent years, the pristine forest of the area is being destroyed by human-caused forest res, which have resulted in rapid depletion of the rich ora. The survival of populations of several species in their natural habitats in unsure, while a few are already on the verge of extinction. The present work has been undertaken to produce a detailed inventory of the plant wealth of Dzukou valley and the surrounding hills. The work is based on extensive surveys as well as critical study of herbarium specimens housed at 'ASSAM', Botanical Survey of India, Eastern Circle, Shillong, and the study of other relevant literature by the authors.The book deals with 333 species belonging to 236 genera and 119 families consisting of pteridophytes, gymnosperms, dicotyledons and monocotyledons, which were collected, identied and described. Colour photos are given for to help with identication of plants in the wild.
