The Limpopo is a river in South Africa.

The aim of this guide is to enable observers in the Limpopo Valley to identify fifty of the most common grass species at first glance. Once identified, more information on the species can be obtained from other
scientific publications. Descriptions are restricted to characteristic features of the specific species as well as its ecological significance.

All illustrations (scans) are more or less life size. Common names of grasses reflect names most often used in the Limpopo Valley or those mentioned in other field guides. A complete set of herbarium specimens of the fifty plus species described in this guide is available.

All identifications have been confirmed by SANBI (South African National Biodiversity Institute).
