A Bolete or Two. Notes on Australian Bolete Species and some of their lamelliate relatives with descriptions and Trial Field Keys. 2024. 27 tabs. ca. 185 colour photographs. VI, 268 p. gr8vo. Hardcover.

Boletus edulis, the porcini, is a world-renowned Northern hemisphere edible fungus. It belongs to a group of soft fleshed and often colourful fungi that have pores rather than gills. A Bolete or Two describes some Australian Boletes, an important part of our rich fungal biota. It covers 184 species, 106 of which are scientifically recognized and named and 78 which are new to science and have tag names.

Boletes are an important part of the soil food web and provide nutrients to many native plants and food for native animals and insects. A few Boletes are toxic to humans, we do not know if any Australian ones are edible, so beware.

The book contains descriptions and an image for each species. There are trial keys to assist field mycologists and naturalists with species identification. This work is the result of twenty years collecting and foraying by the author, mainly in Queensland and northern New South Wales.
