Four years of travel and research in the south-west of Western Australia was necessary to compile suitable photographs to illustrate the text of this unique work. Available records, particularly on the Petrophiles, were old and inadequate and the author has accomplished much in sorting out and documenting existing species and their correct nomenclature. Verification of the identity of specimens collected on the field trips was done at the Western Australian Herbarium.
