The taxonomy of the genus Pentaschistis (Arundineae:Poaceae) isreviewed. The history of the discovery and description of the 68 speciesis recounted, the whereabouts of many of the original collections,especially the type collections, are traced, and most of the namesproposed by 19th century botanists are typified. Keys are given to thespecies, and an interactive key based on the DELTA system is available.The species are all furnished with brief descriptions, and taxonomicproblems are discussed.
