Abstract (partly): 230 diatom taxa are listed from the Black Riverwaterways of Western Jamaica. Two new species are decribed, Achnanthesjamaicense Podzorski and Amphora robertsonii Podzorski. 14 taxa ofuncertain taxonomic position are reported. About 30% of the taxa recorded have not been reported from the U.S.A. In comparison to PuertoRico, the area studied in Jamaica has 50% more Achnanthes taxa and 32%more Navicula taxa, while Puerto Rico has 62% more Pinnularia taxa but no reported freshwater Fragilaria taxa.
