Under this study, surface sediments, mosses, rock and other available habitats werestudied from 91 ponds and lakes along with sediment cores fromseveral sites. It quickly became clear that many of the diatomsobserved from this study were either poorly documented or new and a taxonomic treatment of these diatoms from high latitudes in theArctic was warranted. Detailed taxonomic studies continued at theCanadian Museum of Nature using addition SEM generated images and theextensive reference library.
