Atlas des bois feuillus de France. Util d'identification multi-échelle. 2025. illus. 594 p. gr8vo.- In French.

This book provides a vitally important overview of the changes that will affect not only the specific composition of forests in the future, but also tree growth rates and wood quality and density.

Based on an exceptional sample of 114 species - some of them rare - this book integrates the multi-scale approach and the relationship between material and resource in an unprecedented way.

For each species, the macroscopic description is illustrated by photographs of a cylinder and cross-sections of the wood and bark. On a microscopic scale, the anatomy of the wood is described using the criteria of the IAWA (International Association of Wood Anatomists).

This work was carried out as part of the XyloDensMap project, a collaboration between INRAE, IGN and the University of Lorraine, which assessed the biomass of the French forest by measuring the infradensity of core samples taken during the forest inventory carried out between 2016 and 2019. The results of the study are supplemented by dendrometric measurements provided by the IGN.

The hardwood forest species recorded during the study period are presented exhaustively, with some of today's secondary species likely to become the majority species in the future.

Like its predecessor, the Atlas of Softwoods in France, this book is aimed at all professionals in the forestry and timber industry, particularly experts, researchers, teachers and students.
