The pollen and spores atlas of the Polish Neogene volume 3Angiosperms (1) contains descriptions and photo documentation ofthe following groups of pollen: inaperturate, monoporate, diporate,triporate, zonoporate and pantoporate. The lay-out of this volume,morphological descriptions and illustrations of pollen were made in thesame way as in the preceding volumes (Stuchlik ed. 2001, vol. 1Spores; 2002, vol. 2 Gymnosperms). This elaboration comprisespalynofloras from 65 localities of Polish Neogene from variousstratigraphical units (Fig. 1). Stratigraphical posision ofpalynological profiles is presented on the table (Tab. 1) including allNeogene stages. The table contains chronostratigraphic andlithostratigraphic scheme of the Paratethys area (Watycha 1977) andPolish Lowlands (Piwocki 1998). In the present study publishedmaterials as well as these, remaining in archives of the W. SzaferInstitute of Botany Polish Academy of Sciences in Kraków, PolishGeological Institute, and Museum of the Earth Polish Academy ofSciences in Warszawa, and the Warsaw and Wrocaw Universitieshave been taken into consideration. All described pollen taxa areillustrated on 67 plates with photo documentation of pollen grainsmade in the last 60 years, as well as newly preparedmicrophotographs especially using the Scanning Electron Microscope(SEM). All hitherto described taxa were verified according to the rulesthe International Code of Botanical Nomenclature (ICBN, McNeil et al.described and verified. The verification of fossil genera was madeaccording to the Genera File of Fossil Spores (Jansonius & Hills1976, 1992, Jansonius et al. 1998, 2002).
