The denominations C4 and CAM refer to species in our flora that havephysiological characteristics or are able to live in conditions makingthem well suited to environments under severe water stress, and have technical potential to enhance agriculture, forestry, fish resources andthe environment. This book contains a series of studies on the biology,physiology, biochemistry, histology and biotechnology of C4 and CAM plants in the Spanish Mediterranean and arid lands of Chile and Argentina. It also presents several studies on water resources, soilphysicochemical regulation and the influence of salinity, and two studies on potential biological adaptations of C3, C4 and CAM plants.The ultimate goal of this research is to produce new knowledge withwhich to develop agri-environment measures to improve the value ofareas hit hard by rural abandonment.
