In this lavishly-illustrated book, the development and nature ofcuticle in species of the Corymbosae is described. The cuticle is shownto be multi-lamellate; each double lamella is shown to be probably theproduct of a single day. The lamellate cuticle is shown to consistlargely of rubber. The cuticle of the Corymbosae is the site of novelphenomena, associated, e.g. with stomatal breakthrough and thedevelopment of 'scurfiness'. For the first time for any group of theeucalypts, fruit development and deshiscence are investigated in detail.Species-specific features of the anatomy of the nectary are exploredand, together with features of the leaf cuticle, used in delineatingtwenty-five new species. These new species together with four previouslynamed species are described in detail. The four species are thusrestored from relegation to synonymy or alleged hybrid status. Thepenultimate chapter deals with aspects of the plant geography of theeucalypts, especially the Corymbosae, in the light of presentdistribution and recent fossil evidence. The final chapter is devotedto a description of the genus Eucalyptus, emphasising features commonto all the species.
