This catalogue presents 1274 entries of species names. For each entry, information on the status of species name, authority, the venue of protologue publication, synonyms and/or names annotated on labels,and the specimens located in different herbaria are provided. Up to present, 2741 specimens attributed to Wied have been located, distributed in 139 families, 569 genera and 1197 species of vascular plants, and 23families, 36 genera and 52 species of cryptogams, including algae.

Wied specimens are amongst the earliest extant collections from Brazil, comprising a precious record of the flora of the Atlantic rainforest and of the dry vegetation (Semideciduous forest, savanna and caatinga) of Bahia in the early 19th century. Over 500 of them are nomenclatural types.
