The book is divided into two parts: the first part introduces the classification history, application value and main identification characteristics of lycophytes and ferns; the second part mainly introduces plants of various families and genera based on the latest and internationally recognized "PPG I system", introducing the names, morphological characteristics, habitat distribution, medicinal use and protection level of some species of ferns in 36 families and 130 genera. Each species is accompanied by 1-4 photos reflecting the habitat and main identification characteristics. The book selects more than 1,800 exquisite pictures from more than 100,000 pictures as materials. Most of the pictures were taken by the authors Wang Bo and Sun Qingwen in Guizhou, Yunnan, Sichuan, Guangxi, Chongqing and Guangdong, and a small number were taken in Tianjin, Jilin, Taiwan, Xinjiang, Tibet, Hunan, Anhui and other places. The shooting locations cover the main distribution areas of Chinese lycophytes and ferns.
