This book is an inventory of the names of recent cyanoprokaryotes and algae species found in the continental part of Israel up to 1999. The total number of cyanoprokaryotes and algal taxa in cluded in this edition is 283 genera and 1254 species and infraspecific taxa of Cyanoprokaryota (=Cyanophyta, Cyanobacteria, Euglenophyta, Dinophyta, Cryptophyta, Xanthophyta, Chrysophyta, Bacillariophyta, Chlorophyta and Rhodophyta. Thirty three genera and threehundredtwelve species and infraspecific are detected in Israel flora for the first time. Ten species and infraspecific taxa are described for science for the first time. For three species, new nomenclatural and taxonomic combinations are suggested. Preliminary analysis of the algal flora of Israel is given. Taxa conventionally endemic to Israel are referred. The information given for each species includes basionym, main synonyms,occurrence, distribution in Israel with references to extralimital distribution.
