Stafleu mentions 120 plates in the copy he catalogued. The index in the book itself lists 119 plates, which are present in the offered copy. The vellum cover of the books is spoiled. Inside front cover two notes: De la bibliothèque de M. Garcin / Gagnebin l'ainé de la Ferriière, 1754. Right side margin of frontpaper damaged on lower part of the page. Text pages throughout slightly browned. No foxing on the plates.

Rivinus anticipated Tournefort and Linnaeus in devising an artificial system of plant classification. His system comprised eighteen classes (ordines) based on the number of petals of a flower and on its regularity or irregularity.
