This work presents the study of the family Rubiaceae of the states
of Goias and Tocantins (Brazil), with citations of representative specimens
collected in the Distrito Federal and contiguous states. The initial core of
the material studied is represented by the collections of Prof. Jose Angelo
Rizzo and collaborators. Additionally, a considerable amount of material
present in national and international herbaria, totaling about 60.000 speci-
mens, was studied during the period 1998-2010. According to this study,
the family is represented in Goias and Tocantins by 61 genera and 245 species (including those cultivated and/or naturalized). In this work are pre-
sented the keys for the identification of genera and species, illustrations of
representative species, distribution maps for all native species, list of exs-
iccatae of all specimens examined, index of common names, and index of
scientific names.
