Gorumara National Park (GNP) is one of the oldest reserve forests in India which was declared as National Park in 1994. It is located in dooars region of Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal, having an area of ca 79 sq km. The park has excellent climatic conditions for luxuriant growth of the trees, shrubs, climbers and marshy herbaceous plants. GNP is also famous for the gene pool reserve for the great Indian one horned rhinoceros. The park has been declared as the best among the protected areas in India by Ministry of Environment, Forests & Climate Change (M0EF & CC) for the year 2009. GNP is encircled by many ethnic villages.
This book provides the first systematic and comprehensive account of the floral diversity of GNP comprises 350 taxa under 260 genera belonging to 90 families of Angiosperms. The flora embraces plant species possessing medicinal, foods and commercial values. The present effort is brought in the full picture of the flora of the National Park and provides photo plates and key to the species for easy and spot identification of plant species which helps foresters and other plant lovers.
