This was the first comprehensive publication to describe the flowering plants and ferns of the Outer Hebrides, comprising over 700 species. Introductory chapters describe the climate, geography, geology, soils, vegetation and botanical history. A special effort has been made to supply Gaelic namesfor the plants, and there is a chapter on Gaelic plant folklore. The new printing includes some amendments and an index.
