Illustrated in the Senior author's own hand, the present volume formsthe first part of an exhaustive work devoted to one of the mostbeautiful areas in the Kashmir Himalaya. Intensive field and laboratorystudies on the flora of the Upper Liddar Valleys, undertaken for wellover five years duration, have yielded a wealth of species, of which 6belonging to Gymnospermae and 295 to Polypetalae alone form thematerials for this volume. The book covers 130 genera under 35 familiesand is the first ever for any of the side valleys of Kashmir to give allthe more important aids to plant identification, viz. short descriptiveaccounts and analytical keys at the familial, generic and specificlevels etc., under a single cover. Its apeal is further enhanced by upto date nomenclature, notes (wherever possible) on medicinal and otheruses of various species.
