These two volumes catalogue more than two hundred botanical drawingsfrom the Erbario Miniato, an early seventeenth - century herbal thatformed part of the Paper Museum of Cassiano dal Pozzo (1588 - 1657) andis now in the Royal Library, Windsor Castle. Also included are a furthersixty or so drawings that originally formed a companion volumeto the Erbario Miniato, which was broken up in the eighteenth centuryand dispersed in the twentieth century. Most of the drawings showthe native flora of Central Italy, but mycological specimens, raritiesfrom across Europe, etc. are also included. Each drawing isreproduced in full colour, and its botanical, medicinal, and historicalaspects are discussed in the accompanying text. An introductory essayplaces the drawings in their art- and botancio - historical contexts,with comparative photographs of earlier and contemporary plant illustrations.
