In this work are reported the results of a taxonomic study on the tribe Psychotria, based on the occurrence survey of this taxon at the State of Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil. The existence of fourteen species was verified, two belonging to the genus Rudgea Salisb., ten to the genus Psychotria L. and two to the genus Geophila D. Don. The citation of this last genus is new for the State of Rio Grande do Sul, due to the occurrence of the species G. repens (L.) Johnston and G. macropoda (R. &P.) DC. From the ten species of genus Psychotria L., the following give also constitute new citations: P. birotula Smith & Downs, P. myriantha Muell. Arg., P. nitidula Cham. et Schlecht., P. tenerior (Cham.) Muell.Arg. and P. brachypoda (Muell. Arg.) Britton.
