500 species are described in volume 1 from the area of the two plateaus, specially of the part from Kotagiri to Ootacamund and Pykara, and nearKodaikanal, which range from 6500 to 8500 feet above sea-level.Descriptions have mostly been made from fresh living specimens. Theclassification follows Bentham and Hooker's Genera Plantarum. Vol.2contains the plates for vol.1. Volume 3 is a supplement covering the range of Coonoor down to 5000 feet.
