Since mankind's earliest beginnings plants have played a central rolein the cultural development of peoples. Texts on plants by Theophrasus,Dioscorides, Virgil, Ovid and Pliny the Elder, among others, have comedown to us, their survival demonstrating their outstanding importanceas documents for botanical and medical research. However, these worksare a trove of other cultural and aesthetic values that have previouslybeen little disseminated. This book aims to open up this space andturn its focus towards the more symbolic aspects of plants in theworld of ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome, as well as references to themin the Bible.
