Invasive Plant Management Issues and Challenges in the United States. 2012. 288 p. gr8vo. Hardcover.

In August, 2005, a symposium entitled Control of Invasive Species: Regulatory Concerns and Achievements, subtitled New Approaches for Prevention, Regulation and Assessment of Invasive Species, was held in Washington, DC. The symposium was organized by Anne Leslie (Environmental Protection Agency) and Randy Westbrooks (U.S. Geological Survey). An ACS meeting offered the opportunity of bringing together representatives of governmental and private organizations that have been working to control the spread of exotic invasive plant and animal species in the United States for many years. Although the problem has been recognized for quite some time, it has been lacking an adequate legislative mandate, public awareness, and sufficient funding to meet the challenge. The organizers felt that a dialog at this meeting could result in a publication that would showcase the many diverse efforts being made, especially in dealing with a problem that does not recognize arbitrary geopolitical boundaries. It also would recognize the global extent of the problem and compare the methods used in other countries with those of the U.S. This book is essentially a progress report on some of these efforts at the federal, state, and local levels, with recommendations of what still needs to be done.
