This is a compilation of the flowering plants in an area comprising theIsland of Puerto Rico and the smaller islands belonging to the politicalunit of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. It includes all native (endemicor otherwise) and naturalized plants in the area. The families have beennumbered to provide a convenient guide to the user; they will be treatedin numerical sequence as far as possible. After the description of eachfamily, there is a key to the genera, followed by the treatment of eachgenus in alphabetical order, then by a key to the species within thegenus, and descriptions of the species; each description is followed bya short ecological note and by the geographical distribution both withinthe area and worldwide; finally the vernacular names, both Spanish andEnglish. This first volume studies families Casuarinaceae toConnaraceae.
